Scholarly Article Analyzing Digital Piracy

In the article, "Digital Music and Online Sharing: Software Piracy 2.0?", the researchers contributed three factors to an increase in online pirating of music: demographics, economic factors, and technology. They found that females and older people participate in online piracy less and that a person's income, the price of the music (to buy legally) and how much value they attribute to the product affect the likelihood to pirate. Also, they noticed that improved Internet speed and quality leads people to pirate more.

I have determined this article to be scholarly for a number of reasons. First, it had an abstract to summarize its contents. Second, the authors, Sudip Bhattacharjee, Ram Gopal, and G. Lawrence Sanders, have written a number of other scholarly journals. Third, they do not explain certain definitions because they are writing to an academic audience. Fourth, they are sharing original research and findings with their audience. Also, it was published by the Association for Computing Machinery which seems like a credible source and relates to the topic of study.
