Creativity Unlimited

In today's world we have so many new and exciting digital inventions from Dubturbo to the latest version of Adobe Photoshop. These new, digital devices and softwares allow us to express our creativity on a completely different level . Before the rise of the digital age, we created music with musical instruments and art with a brush and paint. However, technology has opened a door with unlimited possibilities. For example, now we can remix old songs into dynamic, platinum selling hits with softwares such as Dubturbo and Logic Studio. Personally, I use Adobe Photoshop a lot when manipulating my photographs. With Photoshop you can create special filters, crop out complete objects without cropping the whole image, distort photographs, overlap images and many, many other manipulations.

Just thinking of how quickly our society has evolved technologically, it makes you wonder What will they think up next? What's going to be the next "big thing"? That's the beauty of creativity...there are no limits.

Impact of Piracy on the Music Industry

Most of us have at one point or another downloaded music illegally. Growing up we were taught that shoplifting is a big no-no. However, for some reason downloading "free" music doesn't seem that bad, right? Wrong. Online piracy of music has a bigger impact on the music industry than we think.

Many of us think I'm only downloading ONE song..it's not a big deal. Well, the problem is EVERYONE thinks that and when you think of how many songs are pirated each year it amounts to a lot. According to the Recording Industry Association of America about "$12.5 billion dollars in losses to the U.S. economy as well as more than 70,000 lost jobs and $2 billion in lost wages to American workers." Not only is this hurting the music artists but it affects the songwriters, talent scouts, producers, and many others.

However, many rebut these arguments against piracy and claim that your favorite bands don't suffer THAT much financial-wise or that pirated music has the same if not better quality than "paid for" music. The point is that music pirating is a big issue with many for and against it. My question is Do you think there's nothing wrong with downloading "free music" or do you consider it stealing? Why?

Welcome to the Digital Era

The rise of the digital era has created a completely new world that allows us to express our creativity in so many new ways from online art communities to YouTube music videos. However, with so many new outlets to showcase our creative abilities the threat of piracy becomes an important issue. I chose to research more about creativity, piracy and intellectual property because as an artist these are issues that I need to know about especially when I sell my artwork on the Internet. In this blog I hope to research and find the answers to questions surrounding these topics to better my understanding about the internet.
